REPURPOSED EDUCATORS ARE STEADFAST IN CHANGING THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY, FIRST STOP VEGAS.

CAMBRIDGE, MN, February 24th, 2023:

A schoolteacher duo is making waves in the world of construction. The Repurposed Educator team includes two Cambridge, MN natives, Kayti Bjorklund-Strandlund and Ryanne Bostrom, who are former educators with the Forest Lake Area and Cambridge-Isanti Schools. The two will be presenting in the Community Zone at ConExpo/Con/Agg in Vegas, NV on March 16th from 1-2 PM.

Kayti and Ry were an integral part of the creation of DW Companies, a company that set out to change the stigma and dated approaches in the construction world. DW Companies was formed by several experienced individuals from the dirt world and a couple former educators or Repurposed Educators as they like to call themselves. They were determined to create a place where team culture was paramount. The two are using their education skill sets and professional development experience while incorporating them into the construction world. They are seeing impressive effects on work environment, communication, recruitment, retention, and business growth with the intentional work that they are doing at DW Companies.

“After implementing and tailoring our idea of professional development in construction to our own team at DW,” said Bostrom, “and focusing on how much of it impacts our team culture, plus the power of social media, we find ourselves on a stage in Vegas in a few weeks telling our story and sharing with others what we believe can change the industry as we know it.”

Missy Scherber, of T.Scherber Demolition and Excavating, and women in construction influencer, noticed the work of Repurposed Educator (RE) and instantly made a connection with her own personal passion and approach to workforce development and decided to reach out to the duo. “I feel the work of Repurposed Educator is important to our teams, companies, and the future of our industry and I am excited to implement their ideas at T.Scherber.”, said Scherber. Scherber, a member of the ConExpo/Con/Agg planning team, encouraged the rest of the planning team that it was important that RE was included in the lineup at the largest construction convention in the US.

“It’s exciting to see strong influencers in the industry noticing our work and validating the need to create a strong team culture”. Said Bjorklund-Strandlund. “There is so much buzz around changing culture in the construction world, but there also is a lack of tools to execute the change. We are excited to share with other professionals in the industry the recipe that we have found to be successful.”

ConExpo/Con/Agg runs March 14-18th in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Community Zone is located in the Festival Lot of the show where attendees can gather and network with other construction professionals.
