About Us

K Mell-Bowers Consulting helps established business owners prepare for one of the biggest transitions they will ever face: **eventually stepping away from their business.**

Whether you plan to sell, pass the business to family, retire, or simply want to be prepared for the unexpected, exit planning should begin long before you're ready to leave. The goal is to build a business that has value beyond you and can continue to operate successfully without depending on you for every decision, customer relationship, and day-to-day problem.

I’m Katherine Mell-Bowers, Business Advisor and founder of K Mell-Bowers Consulting. I work with business owners who have spent years—often decades—building their companies through hard work, hands-on experience, persistence, and a willingness to figure things out along the way.

For many owners, their business represents far more than a source of income. It represents years of sacrifice, risks taken, lessons learned, relationships built, and a reputation earned.

But eventually, every owner faces an important question:

**What happens to my business when I’m no longer there?**

A profitable business isn't necessarily a transferable business. Key customer relationships may belong primarily to the owner. Employees may depend on the owner for decisions. Important processes may exist only in the owner's head. If the owner suddenly steps away, much of the company's value can be at risk.

That's where I help.

My exit-readiness work identifies and addresses issues such as owner dependency, undocumented systems and processes, customer concentration, key relationships, leadership and delegation, and unexpected-event risks.

I offer a free **Exit-Readiness Score** as a quick starting point, followed by a comprehensive **Exit-Readiness Assessment** for owners who want a deeper understanding of their company's strengths, risks, and gaps. For owners ready to take action, my **Built to Outlast You Program** provides a practical roadmap for creating a stronger, more transferable business.

My approach comes from more than 15 years of hands-on operations management and business ownership experience. I've built departments from the ground up, hired and trained teams, improved processes, reduced costs, implemented systems, and owned and operated a motorcycle repair shop. I understand that solutions have to work in the real world—not just look good on paper.

Exit planning doesn't mean you're ready to retire. **The earlier you prepare, the more options you have.** Preparing now can make your business easier to run today while increasing its ability to continue without you tomorrow.

If you've spent 20, 30, or 40 years building your business, its value shouldn't disappear when you're ready to step away.

**You've worked hard to build your business. Let's make sure it's Built to Outlast You.**
